Ruth has a lifetime of experience as a consumer of Ballroom and Latin dancewear. She started dance lessons at age 4 and began competing in Ballroom and Latin dance competitions at around age 10. At university, Ruth began competing on the Inter-Varsity competition circuit and continued as a very successful competitor throughout her 20s. As well as founding and running Obsession Dancewear, Ruth is a student Ballroom and Latin dance teacher with MaSh Dance in Northamptonshire and regularly accompanies students to competitions. She gets lots of inspiration for her dress designs from the UK competition circuit where she can spot new trends and get ideas to start dress design trends of her own.
Obsession Ballroom and Latin dresses are made using the highest quality, innovative dance fabrics. Primarily we use lycra, chiffon, pearl silk chiffon, mesh and fringing. We use a beautiful palette of colours ranging from soft pastels to rich and romantic darker shades. We use both ombre lycra and chiffon and a range of flourescent fabrics too. All of our Ballroom dresses and most of our Latin dresses have a leotard base with poppers at the gusset.
We use the highest quality glass gemstones. We create both daring and demure designs each season to suit different ages of dancer and level of ability/experience. Our daring designs are attention-seeking and make sure that plenty of the dancer’s beautiful body can be seen whilst our demure designs allow the dancer to feel and look fantastic whilst showing a little less skin. We specialise in making curvy dancers feel confident on the dancefloor by producing our larger size dresses with full mesh arms, high backs and flattering stoning patterns.
Although alterations to existing Obsession Dancewear dresses cannot be made, dresses can be remade for clients in a different size, length, colour etc. Bespoke orders can be made during a fitting appointment, over the telephone or by email. An additional 20% is charged for bespoke orders.
The Classic Collection
These dresses are classic, simple and sophisticated and are designed specifically for beginners, young dancers and for when one needs more than practice wear but not high-level competition wear. With clean flattering lines and just a hint of sparkle, this collection offers the perfect Ballroom/Latin staple. Ballroom dresses in the Classic Collection come with detachable floats as standard. Both Classic Ballroom and Latin dresses are created in sizes 6-20 (UK).
The Blaze Collection
This dazzling collection is made up of stunning dresses in exciting designs. You will find traditional and high-fashion designs, all covered with masses of the highest quality glass stones. These dresses are designed for dancers at all levels, including professional. Blaze Collection Ballroom dresses come with detachable floats as standard. Both Blaze Ballroom and Blaze Latin dresses come with chokers/neckpieces as standard. Both Blaze Ballroom and Latin dresses are created in sizes 6-20 (UK).
The Obsession Collection
The Obsession Collection is pure luxury. Made from the finest quality fabrics, Obsession dresses are even more heavily stoned than Dazzle dresses. Ballroom Obsession dresses have ostrich feather as standard. This collection is of particular interest to professional dancers and those who want to really get noticed on the competition dancefloor. Obsession Collection Ballroom dresses come with feature detachable floats as standard. Both Obsession Ballroom and Obsession Latin dresses come with chokers/neckpieces, earrings, luxury dress bags and branded dressing gowns as standard. Both Obsession Ballroom and Latin dresses are created in sizes 6-20 (UK).
